Microsoft’s stand-alone Office applications have been available for Android tablets for quite some time now, but on Wednesday the company officially launched the latest version of Word, Excel and PowerPoint for Android smartphones. It’s yet another sign that Microsoft is putting huge investments into other operating systems in an effort to expand its software offerings to as many people as possible.
The release follows a preview version of Office for Android that launched five weeks ago. Users can expect to view and edit documents, present directly from their smartphones and more. Consumers with an Office 365 subscription will also be able to create documents on the go. Also, as we already know, Microsoft is pre-loading some of these apps on new Android smartphones from major OEMs such as Samsung, Sony, LG and more.
